What’s up? I’m contacting Archos customer service on this question. My wife and I have been talking about getting some DVD screens for our car but I’d be more interested in getting a 705 with a car mount so it would have the added web, music, pictures features over the basic DVD player.

It’s beautiful, simple, and well … extremely cool.

But I’ve got to tell you, a friend of mine showed me his Archos (a 400 series at the time) a while back and it certainly peaked my interest. And the new Archos 605 is hot. It surfs the web (the real web … like the iPod touch and phone … not the dumpy mobile web), displays video, photos, pdfs, plays music … plus with a $100 docking station accessory it becomes a mini-PVR, digitally capturing your favourite show for later viewing.

It prices out around the $300 USD mark, which plants it around the iPod Touch price. And I’m certainly a fan of its bright 4.3″ touch screen and the 30 GB hard drive - yes, that’s twice the capacity of the top-end Touch. It makes me think that perhaps it’s the better deal right now … but who knows what the next MacWorld will bring to the iPod Touch.

All the major studios are lined up as well as independent and foreign studios, providing 5000 titles.

I would have no problem showing off this little box alongside the best of my techno toys.

Something about the Apple TV doesn’t make sense to me. Apple Inc are masters of design. Why, oh why then does it come with such a piddly, basic looking remote.

The product as a whole is impressive. The though of zipping through videos, music, pics, and dabbling in YouTube all wirelessly on a big widescreen tv is cool, but I lose my normal size universal remote quite easily. That little Apple remote is going to be gone in an hour. And heaven forbid my 8-month-old gets a hold of it … it won’t stand a chance.

It almost seems as though the Apple design team were plugging along, excited about the new product, and then realized last minute that a remote might be a needed inclusion. Looking around the office, they seemed to have grabbed an iMac remote. “Ya, that’ll do.” yikes.

If I’m going to have something as cool as the Apple TV sitting in my family room, please provide me with a remote that matches that coolness.

I don’t know what it is, but when I see stuff on TV about new electronic gadgetry, I’m drawn to it like moth to a lightbulb. The other day I was was watching the Today Show on NBC (actually it was Christmas Day …. I know, I know, watching TV on Christmas morning … probably something better to be doing) and they were going through these new electronics; Camera’s, phones, and the beautiful new iMac. I could have watched for hours. Do I need help? Are there others like me out there?

My wife got me a year’s subscription to Wired magazine. That is a sweet magazine. I tend to default to Mac magazines but Wired covers a broader spectrum of electronics and culture. Plus, there aren’t as many ads at the back of the magazine. For goodness sake, half of MacAddict is ads. I like MacWorld, but even I can only handle so much “mac-related” at one sitting. Wired is a good mix.

Well, today’s the day. I woke up this morning with the Leopard release announcement on my Blackberry Pearl. After much anticipation, Apple has released the newest edition of its powerful OSX operating system.

Apple is saying there are 300 additions differentiating Leopard from its predecessor Tiger, some of which are simply upgrades on Tiger features.

Will I be running out to buy the new operating system. No. It’s like Apple’s hardware releases. I’m not a big fan of buying new items (software included). I’d rather wait for a few rounds of upgrades and bug-fixes before taking the plunge.

Looks good though.

It’s been too long. The last Apple store I visited was the new one at Sherway Gardens in Toronto. It’s not like I have much in the line of money to spend but a guy can dream. With the Canadian dollar the way it is there are some nice deals to be had across the border in the US. Retailers in Canada haven’t adjusted their prices for the strong dollar yet so we’re overpaying on products in Canada right now.

All that to say I’d like to get to an Apple store and play with some of the new devices.

Soon, I’m sure.

When, oh when do Canadians get to play with the new Apple iPhone.

We wait.

But hey, it’s bound to come here. It’s just a matter of time. And given that the iPhone uses the GSM system, Rogers will be the Canadian carrier. I’m a Rogers client right now with my BlackBerry Pearl and while I’m not “uber” happy with Rogers, it’s better than Bell, I suppose.

Of course, I just bought my BlackBerry last spring, so it’ll be a while before I’m ready to fork out more money for another phone, even if it is the iPhone. If Rogers came along with a sweet launch deal for current contracted clients, I may jump at the opportunity, but that would have to be a sweet deal.

And you can guarantee that Canadians are going to get hosed on the data plans. I wish I lived in the States just for their better mobile rates.

So, one day I’m sure I’ll hold an iPhone in my hands, but until then I’ll just have to wait with the rest of the company.
